Do you need a new roof? Signs to look out for.
Often times our customers are puzzled on the condition of their roof. There are obvious tells (‘I found a bunch of your blown off shingles at the end of your driveway’), but sometimes the condition can be a little vague.
Here are several signs that may indicate you need a new roof:
Age: A typical roof lasts around 20-25 years. If your roof is approaching or exceeding that age, it may be time to consider replacing it.
Shingles: Check for missing or cracked shingles. If you notice a significant amount of damage, it may be a sign that your roof is nearing the end of its life.
Sagging: If your roof is sagging or appears to be uneven, this could indicate structural damage that needs to be addressed immediately.
Water damage: If you notice water damage inside your home, such as water stains on your ceiling or walls, it could be a sign of a leaky roof.
Energy bills: If your energy bills are unusually high, it could be a sign that your roof is not properly insulated or ventilated.
Granules: Check your gutters and downspouts for an excessive amount of granules. If you see a lot of them, it could be a sign that your shingles are wearing out.
Moss or algae: If you notice moss or algae growing on your roof, it could be a sign that your roof is not draining properly, which could lead to water damage over time.
If you notice any of these signs, it's best to contact a professional roofer to assess the condition of your roof and determine whether a replacement is necessary. (it doesn’t have to be done by us, but happy to do a free inspection - just saying!)
